why gases are compressible but not liquids

Because there is a huge intermollecular space b/w the gas particles and there is less intermolecular space b/w liquid particles

Gases are compressible because the intermolecular space between the particles of gas is maximum and hence can be brought closer if pressure is applied to them........ But in liquids the intermolecular space between the particles is very less and cannot be brought further closer if pressure is applied................. This is the reason why gases are compressible but not liquids....
