bcoz it is a flagellated protozoan parasite which reproduces in the small intestine causing giardiasis.. and this doesnt spread through the bloodstream or the other parts of the gastrointestinal tract but it remains in the lumen of small intestine.so its called grand  old man of intestine...

Girdia intestinalis is a flagellated protozoans witches present in the small intestine of human being and cause dysentery .

Explanation:

  • Girdia intestinalis unlike other amoeba does not spread to other part of the body and is confined only in the small intestine. Since the capacity of transportation of the grd is less hence it is compared to an old man which is present in intestine of human beings. It causes dysentery with mucus from the stool
  • the presence of blood due to infection of this kind of Protozoa is not very common. Antiamoebic drugs is used to treat such condition.
