Why glycerol is a liquid of high viscosity

There is something called hydrogen bonding between molecules. The glycerol molecule has 3 OH groups, and this allows for extensive hydrogen bonding between the many oxygen and hydrogen atoms and hence the molecules are always packed closely together, which makes the substance viscous
