Because it is very unreactive metal but iron react with many metals and gases

gold is a noble metal.. I.e. it is not reactive it does not react with things in the surrounding.. that's why it is found in free state.
whereas iron is a reactive metal... it can react with oxygen and water and get corroded. it may even react with other substances and can lost its true form
