in graphite each carbon atom is sp 2 hybridised and hence there a free electron remains which can conduct electricity ..and this is cuz ..in graphite each carbon atom is attached to three hydrogen and we know that carbon atom has 4 valence electrons...and thus one electron remains which can conduct electricity

Graphite is soft and slippery because there are only weak intermolecular forces between its layers. Graphite is a good conductor of heat and electricity. This is because, like metals, graphite contains delocalised electrons. These electrons are free to move through the structure of the graphite.
