diamond have sp3 hybridisation and 1carbon attached with other 4 carbon atom so no. of free electron so bad conductor of electricity . while graphite sp2 each carbon attached with 3 carbon of other atom so free electron . so good conductor of electricity.

ambrishpratapsingh8: but both have no free of electrons
Bittankumar: yes but change hybridisation
ambrishpratapsingh8: so how can change in hybridization effects flow of electricity
ambrishpratapsingh8: fullerenes also have SP2 hybridization then why they are not conductor of electricity

Graphite can conduct electricity because of the delocalised (free) electrons in its structure. ... However, in diamond, all 4 outer electrons on each carbon atom are used in covalent bonding, so there are no delocalised electrons.
