Leaf is a thin, flat organ of a plant which is green in color due to the presence of chlorophyll.

The reason they are flat is that they have to absorb direct sunlight to carry out the process of photosynthesis.

They are called food factories because they prepare food for the plant in the presence of sunlight and transport it to the rest of the plant. Moreover, they have guard cells for the exchange of gases between plant and the environment.
