Hi!
Elements belonging to Group 1 of the periodic table are known as Alkali metals. They are Lithium, Sodium, Potassium, Rubidium, Caesium and Francium.
Now, metals are generally hard. Exceptions to this are Lithium, Sodium and Potassium. These are soft metals and therefore, can be cut with a knife.
The reason is alkali metals have weak metallic bonding between the atoms due to which these metals are soft can be cut through easily since when we go down a group, the metallic character decreases because the atomic size increases.
