Why group 1 metals have similar chemical properties?

they have similar properties that is why they all were set in group 1 by three scientis who attributed in the formation of modern periodic table. They are Hebert Mosely and Mandeleev.
Also all these medals have similar properties as they have same number of electrons in their outer shells , same vallencey and also same vallency
