Explanation:

The reason behind this is that even non living things also grow. For example snow moutaints grow due to the addition of snow on them or sand dunes grow due to more and more addition of sand.

However point to be noted is that all non living object grow externally not internally. But in case of living the growth is internal. Hence, somehow we can say that growth is not the defining property of living organisms but internal grow may be considered as defing property of living organisms.
