ANSWER:-

 In India, as in Vietnam and many other colonies, the growth of modern nationalism is intimately connected to the anti – colonial movement.

 People began discovering their unity in the process of their struggle with colonialism.

 The sense of being oppressed under colonialism provided a shared bond that tied many different groups together . But each class and group felt the effects of colonialism different, their experience varied, and their notions of freedom were not always same.

 The congress under Mahatma Gandhi tried to forge these groups together within one movement.

 But the unity did not emerge without conflict. The political unification of India under the British gave them the sense of oneness and brought all Indians against the British. Social and economic exploitation created resentment among the Indians and they decided to overthrow the British, who exploited the resources, making India very poor.

 The introduction of press helped the Indians to disseminate their knowledge and communication was easier with the introduction of English. They could convince the Indians the need to organize themselves against the British.

 Hence, the growth of nationalism is linked to an anti – colonial movement in the colonies.
