Why gun
recoils at the trime of firing? A gun has a recoil speed of
2 m/s when firing. If the gun has a mass of 2 kg and the bullet has
a mass 0.01kg, then at what speed does the bullet come out ?

Let the recoil velocity of gun be V.

Mass of gun M

gun

=5.0 kg

Mass of bullet M

bullet

=0.01 kg

Velocity of bullet V

bullet

=250 m/s

Initial momentum of the system P

i

=0

Applying the conservation of linear momentum : P

f

=P

i

Or M

gun

V+M

bullet

V

bullet

=0

Or 5×V+0.01×250=0

⟹ V=−0.5 m/s

Hope it will help you..
