Why gym mats are made of soft materials explain

Gymanasts use mats for their safety. Gymanasts will be doing many excersices and they practice on these mats.so these mats are made up of soft materials which prevents gymanasts to be hurt.so when gymnasts fail to do any excersices they may fall.so,soft mats prevents gymanasts to be hurt.so if they don't use soft mats they may compulsory be hurted much more.
