According to the Lewis theory of acid and bases, an acid is substance which can accept a pair of electrons and base is a substance which can donate a pair of electrons.

Example

Acid - H+1 (The + sign indicates it can accept an electron)

Base -  H- 1 (The - sign indicates it can donate an electron)

Explanation

The Hydrogen ion H-1 has a lone electron which it can donate. So H-1 is a Lewis base.
