why H3PO4 gives 3H+ ions whereas H3PO3 gives 2H+ ions

The higher the pKa value, the less the acidic strength of these acids. HCl releases H+ and Cl- but H3PO4 gives H2PO4- and an H+. The pKa Value of HCl is - 6.3 whereas for H3PO4 it is about 2. As HCl releases hydronium ions in the first step unlike H3PO4, it is therefore haveing a much stronger acidic strength than H3PO4.
