Helen had been helping the narrator to write ghost stories. Everytime the narrator thought of a ghost story, Helen had leaned over his shoulder and provided him a plot. She worked for The Writer's Inspiration Bureau. She was going on a strike because they were too tired to be called too often from their beds, not to provide plots for ghost stories but answer random questions put by people on the Ouijja board. The condition she placed fro providing continued help was she made the narrator promise that he would tell all f his friends and relatives to stop using the Ouijja board.
