why handles of cooking are made of bakelite

Generally bakelite, unlike other plastics is used for Cooking Utensils because it’s cheap to produce, has high heat and impact resistance and can look acceptable cosmetically.

It does however fade when run through the dishwasher, will break if dropped and burn over a gas flame cooking top.
