its not new at all, its always been common, in fact at one point in history men could legally beat his wife, as long as the stick was no bigger than his thumb, or r.pe his wife as it was his right.

Then later people knew domestic violence happened, they even saw or heard it happen, but society treated it like one it was the womans fault, she deserved it, she must have done something to upset him or it was non of their business, for men, they wouldnt dare to admit they were abused because they would have been mocked, and there was no point in telling police officers they would of laughed and called him a sissy. if you were abused it was your lot and you had to accept it.
