The government has declared a free trade zone around Haldia and Kandla because -
• The free trade zone declaration removes every type of custom duties that were previously needed to be paid for using the ports for any kind of trading purposes.
• Now,the removal of the custom duties will attract many trading investors from both the national and international markets.
• In this way,the occupancy of the ports will increase along with the increase in the employment rates in the trading sectors.
• As a result, the national economy will be benefited a lot.
