why has hydrogen been placed in the first group of periodic table being a non metal

Hydrogen has one electron in it's only shell. Similarly alkali metals also have one electron in their outermost shells. Therefore it is placed in first group of peroidic table i.e.grp of alkali metals.

because it has a valency is 1 and show the property of a metal
