Why has meghalya has been called so?

Meghalaya means a boad of clouds and it is called so because this place receives very heavy rainfall....infact a place called Cherrapunji in Meghalaya has recorded the highest amount of rainfall of 1143cm!! The actual meaning of Meghalaya in sanskrit is "the abode of clouds"...This name came for Meghalaya bcoz it located in high altitude.. so it is called so.
