Freedom of religion is neither unfettered nor above the law of the land. Wherever or whenever its practice violates the law or impinges on fundamental rights and freedoms of other people, certain controls become necessary in public-interest. These should be accepted with good grace.
Religion is a personal and private matter between man and God but it should also promote peace and harmony in society. If it does not, it is either misuse of religion or it's a false-faith.
As a multi-faith and pluralistic Nation, India has been a model of harmony and constructive co-existence between faiths, till recently. Bad periods of communal conflict are likely dirty and disgraceful patches on a clean sheet. Let us not do anything to buddy it further.
