the south-west monsoon winds are blocked by the Western ghats.
There, they shed much of their rain. we can see that it is the western part of the western ghats that has blocked the monsoon wind. Therefore, the winds ascend there and shed much of their rain, while the eastern part of it gets relative less rain.
