The western slopes of the Western Ghats get heavy rainfall of more than 200 cm and the region is warm and wet throughout the year. It has luxuriant forests. The eastern slopes are on the Leeward side of the Western Ghats, in the rain-shadow region. The rainfall is scanty on the eastern slopes, with less growth of trees.

Answer:

This is because the westen slopes of the western ghats receive more rainfall than the eastern ghats . During monsoon , the moisture laden air moves eastward across the Western ghats.
