It seems like we actually have two separate brains, and possibly two centers of consciousness, that communicate in a surprisingly minimal way, and if that bundle of fibers is cut, then they cannot communicate, and we then have two brains, and seemingly, two selves.

So calling it the plural "brains" may in fact make sense.
