Why Himalayas are called young and fold mountains?

The himayans are still young fold and growing mountain it has been folded out of sediments deposited by rivers .folds were formed in sediments due to the drifting of two blocks on either side it had increased the height of Himalayan Himalayan are still young or rising. These mountain were formed at a later stage as compared to other mouna.so these are called young mountain

•Himalayas formed on the place where once tethys sea stood

•Slowly and gradually the upliftment process one fold over the other went on increasing

•Hence it assumed the shape of the young fold mountain and are known as the young fold mountain
