Himalayan mountain range was formed as a result of the collision of indo-australian plate and eurasian plate.

According to tectonic plate theory, Indo australian plate (on which India is existing) is moving towards north and is sub ducting under eurasian plate. This movement obviously causes friction between two plates. As a result of which lot of energy is released and we experience earthquakes.
