Hindus celebrate holi because there was prahalad worshipped hindu god was going to be killed by holika as she had a boon that fire could not hurt her .She sat in fire carrying prahalad with her but instead she got killed that is why as a celebration holi was celebrated.
Diwali is celebrated by hindus because when lord Rama returned from forest after 14 years,People of Ayodhya were so happy that they lit the whole city withs diyas.Since then diwali is a major festival of hindus
