The role of the historians and archaeologists is to find out the truth of the past;

just as the detectives try to find out the truth hidden behind a crime.

Often the historical facts need to be excavated out from below the earth’s surface with great efforts, which can be easily compared to search for the evidences by the detectives.

Answer:

Historians and archaeologists are called detectives because they know the historical aspects of the particular place they are excavating and they have to dig into far too deep of the surface of the earth to collect the artifacts that are historically important similar to the detective who will have to get to the depths of the case. The main difference between the Historians, archaeologists and detectives is that the first two deals with the past cases which has happened many years ago while the later one have to deal with the present ones.
