In earlier periods, There were not many means to record any important records. People used to write on bark of trees or engrave in the stones. Sometimes those records also get destroyed or were not in much numbers to conclude anything. Also, people from different status didn't concluded same, at times different/clashing conclusions are made. But in the modern era, records are kept properly on paper and internet. So, it is easier to conclude about the modern period than in the earlier period.
