Why HNO3 and HIO4 are used for electrophilic substitution of toluene to form ortho and para iodotoluene?

In the electrophilic addition reaction HI is formed which is a reducing agent so it reduces the iodotoleune to toleune.

So to destroy the HI formed HNO3 and HIO4 are addes as they are oxidising agents
