Holi is one of the major festivals of Hindus. ... Holi is celebrated in the spring season because it is welcoming spring. Hindus believe that spring is full of colours so they throw coloured water on each other. Holi is based on a legend about King Hiranyakashipu.
Holi festival is an ancient origin and celebrates the victory of God over Evil. Another story was how Prahlada, the devotee worshiped of Lord Vishnu were saved by demon king Hiranyakaship's sister Holika took him into fire to burnt him. While Prahlada saved by Lord, Holika was burnt and hence the name holi was derive.....
The first evening is known as Holika Dahan, or Chhoti Holi. Festival-goers traditionally gather around a bonfire to celebrate the victory of good over evil. They perform religious rituals, which include prayers that any evil inside of them is destroyed. The following day is called Holi, or Rangwali Holi.

HOLI known as the festival of colours is celebrated on the full moon day .falling in the month of phalguna (february to March ).various colours and water are thrown on each other amidst loud music,drums etc to celebrated Holi like many other festivals in India Holi signifies a victory of good over evil .
