The War War II put some of the largest world powers against one another and put them in a state of 'total war' which meant that government resolved to utilizing maximum resources of their country towards war effort.

This resulted in rationing of food, medical facilities and generally very bad living standards of people living through the war.

Many governments did not have enough resources or were left to protect the country against invading forces

Human life greatly suffered through this time and it was not until after the war, that the scale of destruction realized and universal healthcare was adopted by all European countries, which to this day, remains a model for everyone
