at the anode, the reaction is

{{4OH}^{-}- 4e}= 4OH

4OH=2H2O+O2

since 4 electrons are needed...therefore to balance it,

4 electrons are needed at cathode

{{4H}^{+} + 4e= 4H}

4H= 2H2

so h2 is double of o2
