Hydra (coelentrate marine organism) has a unique digestive system which is both extracellular and intracellular. It uses stinging tentacles (nematocytes) to paralyze organisms and bring them into its gastrovascular cavity.

food is stored in the gastrovascular cavity of hydra. Enzymes or special molecules secreted by the hydra, break down food for absorption. Hydra also use extracellular digestion and secrete enzymes to break down the substrate they grow on. Intracellular digestion takes place inside the cell.
