beacause its orbital is incomplete with 1s1 electronic configuration.....
it does combine with almost all the elements too either by loosing one electron or by gaining or by sharing electrons.....

hydrogen always exist in form of diatomic because it is having incomplete outer shell which keeps it unstable. and unstable atom cannot freely exist in the surrounding so it has to appear in a diatomic form
