It does, if the nitric acid is dilute. If theHNO3 is concentrated the gasproduced is a mixture of oxides of nitrogen, because concentrated nitric acid is a powerful oxidizing agent and can oxidize free hydrogen to water.

Heya Friend ,
♦ Nitric acid is a strong oxidising agent , when metal reacts with acid , the liberated hydrogen gas is oxidised into water. Nitric acid gets into other nitric gases like N2O , NO2 and NO . So hydrogen is not evolved. ♦
Hope it helps
