◆●◆Hydrogen is the lightest, smallest and the firstelement of the periodic table. Its electronic configuration (1s1) is the simplest of all the elements.
◆●◆It occupies a unique position in the periodic table. In its properties, it behaves like alkali metals as well as halogens.
◆●◆Hydrogen is placed above group in the periodic table because it has ns1 electron configuration like the alkali metal
hope it helps you..dear

1) Hydrogen behaves like alkali metals since it has only one valence electron in it's outermost shell. So it can be placed with alkali metals.
2) However, Hydrogen forms H2 diatomic molecule just like the halogens like F2 , Cl2 , etc.
Thus , it can be placed even with the halogens of group 17.
3) Now, it also has unpaired electrons in it's electronic configuration like carbon, silicon ,etc elements.
So, there comes a big anamoly of where to place Hydrogen in the whole periodic table. and thus, hydrogen does not have a fixed place in the Modern Periodic Table.
