Why hydrogen is diatomic and helium is monoatomic?

Hydrogen belongs to group 1, and has 1 proton and 1 electron...and it is highly reactive element... therefore hydrogen exist as diatomic gas.. i.e.H2

Helium belongs to group 8,and has 2 protons and 2 electrons....and it is chemically
inert as it has completely filled orbitals... therefore helium exist as monotonic gas
