Why hydrogen is placed in the first group of the periodic table, not in the 17th group with halogens as it requires only one electron to complete it's octate?

hydrogen could not be placed at appropriate position ad it resembles properties of metals as well as halogen..
like metals hydrogen combines with sulphur , oxygen, and halogen with similer formula .
eg. na2o =h2o
na2s=h2s

This is because it is smallest in size containing 1 proton.. Due to this it placed in first position.. And its only contain 1 proton and 1 electron but no neutrons.. Althought group 17 elements also contain neutrons
