why hydrogen,oxygen,Nitrogen,chlorine molecular formula is H2,O2,N2,Cl2???​

Non-metals cannot exist as monoatomic atoms as they become unstable..

They need to gain electron in their outermost shell..so that they can exist..they react mostly with the atom of their elements and form covalent bond..so formula is as H2, N2 etc..and not H, N..
