Ice's density is lesser than water so it floats on water.
Ice has a density of 0.917 g/cm³ while water has a density of 2.17 g/cm³ so ice floats on water.
The water displaced by ice when it is dispersed in water, it displaces water lesser than its weight hence, it floats.

rohithpdpy: because ice have less density than water as it has higher volume when compared to water
Bhumik: yes you both r rite
Demetrius: ice has got less density than water...
Speaking in terms of physics due to water's property of anomalous expansion of water ,until 4 degree water becomes denser and denser but if the temperature is less than 4 degree Celsius than water starts to loose it's density....and as temperature decreases the molecules start to move apart from each other forming a less dense water molecule. Thus ice floats on water..
