why ice floats on water

As it cools further and freezes into ice, it actually becomes less dense on the other hand mpst substances are dense in their solid(frozen) state then in their liquid state. Water is differernt because of hydrogen bonding. The heavier water displaces the lighter ice, so ice floats on the water.
