though ice is a solid , it has large number of empty spaces between it's particles than in water.this spaces are larger as compared to that of water . thus, volume of ice is greater than that of water. hence, the density of ice is less than water. thus, ice floats on water . hope it helps. PLEASE MARK AS BRAINLIEST
