Why idobenzene cannot be prepared by direct halogenation

Answer:

a) The reaction with fluorine is an uncontrolled reaction and is violent. The reaction with iodine produces HI which acts as a very good reducing agent and reduces the iodobenzene to iodine and benzene. That is the reverse reaction occur.

b) Aryl cyanides can be prepared from benzene diazonium chloride by treatment with potassium cyanide, which is a nucleophilic substitution reaction. Here KCN exist as an ionic compound with K+ and CN- group.
