why in a fuse instead of using thin wire , why thick wire is used ?

In a fuse thin wires are used instead of thick wires because thin wires have high resistivity and low melting point.This 'high resistivity and low melting point' wires are often thin.Additionaly if the current increases then the fuse wire melts thus cutting off the power supply and further protecting the circuit.So here,we surely require a thin wire.
