why in a glass slab emergent ray is laterally deviated from incident ray?

Due to refraction, to see the refraction takes place twice when the light enters from air (OR) to glass ( OD) and again at the next side that is from glass to air again .

Because the hlass slab have 4 side whire are parallel to each other due to this after refraction emerged ray and incident ray are parallel to each and make laterally deviated.
