Because of structure of HCN. Since N is more electronegative element than H and C and also N is connected with C by triple bond. If we assume that we are breaking this bond via ionic method the electron shared by carbon would be attracted by N also N have a lone pair hence it make N with 5 bonding electrons however it doesn't happen.
