why in reaction of naoh with al water is required

NaOH and H2O reaction to form Na+ and OH- ions in solution. It is EXOTHERMIC because more energy is RELEASED when then ions attach to water molecules than is required to break the NaOH ionic bonds and H2O hydrogen bonds.
