refrigerator freezer placed on top cools the air present in the upper part . cold air being heavier sinks down and the hot air from the lower part being lighter rises up and gets cold. this process continues and a convection current is set up in the refrigerator which keeps the overall temperature low

When the freezer is placed on top,
the cold air produced from the freezer is denser than the warmer air that is present at the bottom.
Hence , cold air sinks down and the warm air is forced rise.
So, when the warm air rises up it and gets cold in the freezer.
